This program takes its name from the 1908 song by vaudeville songwriter Jack Norworth, written on a piece of scrap paper while on a train bound for New York City. There will be “no joy in Mudville,” or Caruth Auditorium, for that matter, as the program will feature a performance of the baseball classic Casey at the Bat. Even though joy might be in short supply, there will be plenty of“peanuts and cracker jack” to go ’round, as well as a seventh-inning stretch, complete with an organ sing-along of Take Me Out to the Ball Game! The “stretch” will also include a rousing rendition of Jack’s Rag by Meadows alumnus and former MWE graduate conducting assistant Benjamin Easley, based on the melody Take Me Out to the Ball Game. Meadows faculty violinist Matt Albert will also join the MWE for a performance of Michigan composer Kristin Kuster’s Two Jades for violin and wind ensemble.
