Meadows Wind Ensemble: Sounds for Sacred Spaces

  • Caruth Auditorium, Meadows School of the Arts (map)

Sounds for Sacred Spaces represents a first-ever journey for the MWE, through a landscape of works that, while not intended specifically for worship, were composed for performance in “sacred spaces.” These works include the French composer, organist, ornithologist and devout Catholic Olivier Messiaen’s Et exspecto resurrectionem mortuorum (And I await the resurrection of the dead), J.S. Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in D minor, Morten Lauridsen’s hauntingly beautiful O Magnum Mysterium and antiphonal brass works by Giovanni Gabrieli, as well as works by Simon Sargon, longtime Meadows faculty composer and music director at Temple Emanu-El in Dallas.
